RICKREALL -- Eola Hills Wine Cellars Inc. is expecting more than 1,000 cyclists this year to participate in an event the winery started in 1997.
Eola Hills hosted a group of 30 cyclists that year on an organized bike ride through Oregon wine country. In addition to riding through some of the most beautiful countryside in the valley, it was also billed as an opportunity for the participants to train for "Cycle Oregon."
The 13th annual Bike Oregon Wine Country takes place every Sunday in August. It features scenic routes through the mid-Willamette Valley wine country. There are stops at several wineries along the route, and support vehicles not only provide technical and courtesy support, but will also pick up the wines ordered by the cyclists at the participating wineries and deliver them back to Eola Hills, 501 S. Pacific Highway (99W), where the ride starts and ends.
Registration fee for each week's ride is $65 and includes lunch, a barbecue at Eola Hills at the end of the ride, and ride support.
The event is open to all levels of riders, with ride options varying from 30 to 70 miles. The ride begins every Sunday in August at 8 a.m.
