DALLAS -- LaCreole Middle School has received a grant from the Oregon University System and the Engineering and Technology Industry Council to fund engineering-related classes.
LaCreole's $17,200 grant will help pay for a new science enrichment class for sixth- through eighth-graders, Principal Steve Spencer said.
The enrichment course will include four- to six-week units on science, technology, engineering and math.
"This will be essentially an additional elective opportunity for students who are meeting or exceeding academic and behavioral expectations in the classroom," Spencer
wrote in an e-mail.
The grant, part of the Project Lead the Way Gateway to Technology Program for middle schools, will cover the cost of supplies and materials for each of the units.
"Once it is up and running, we should be able to maintain the program with minimal additional cost to the district," Spencer said.
