POLK COUNTY -- An Amity man charged with manslaughter following a three-car accident last week has been released from jail after his wife posted bail.

David Pallett, 49, was arraigned in Polk County Circuit Court on March 23 on charges including second-degree manslaughter, driving under the influence of alcohol, assault and reckless driving.

That was one day after he allegedly drove his pickup while drunk on Wallace Road Northwest, just north of Salem, crossed the centerline and crashed into two vehicles, Oregon State Police said.

Four people in one of the cars were injured. And Alan Olson, 58, of Salem was killed when his Chevrolet Malibu ended up in a ditch and Pallett's truck landed on top of it.

Bail for Pallett was set at $272,500. His wife posted the 10 percent of that amount needed for release.

Pallett will appear in court at 1:15 p.m., Thursday, April 1, to request or waive a preliminary hearing.
