MONMOUTH -- One of Oregon's most recognized musicians is bringing his friends to Monmouth for an evening of jazz.
Oregon Music Hall of Fame inductee Mel Brown will bring all three of his Jimmy Mak's bands to perform in one jazz-filled evening Sunday, April 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Rice Auditorium at Western Oregon University.
The event is part of the 2009-10 Edgar H. Smith Fine Arts Series.
The concert will kick off with the classic bop sounds of the Mel Brown Septet, followed by the swinging Mel Brown Quartet featuring Tony Pacini, Ed Bennett and Dan Balmer. The night will be capped with the high-spirited grooves of the Mel Brown Hammond B-3 Band, featuring Louis Pain, Renato Caranto and Balmer.
Tickets for the concert are $18 general and $10 for students.
A pre-concert dinner is available before the performance at 5:30 p.m. at Gentle House, adjacent to the WOU campus at 855 N. Monmouth Ave.
The menu is scheduled to include beef stroganoff and mushrooms over egg noodles, vegetable medley, sourdough bread, apple pie with ice cream, and coffee, tea and water. Cost is $18 per person -- wine is available for an additional charge -- and reservations are required.
