Luncheon at CHS
Central High School leadership students will host their annual Senior Citizen Thanksgiving luncheon Wednesday, Nov. 24, at noon.
The event takes place in the cafeteria at Central High School, 1530 Monmouth St., Independence. All seniors are welcome.
The luncheon will include turkey, mashed potatoes, yams, stuffing, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. Along with food, attendees will be treated to a performance by CHS's own Mainstreet Singers and are eligible to participate in a holiday raffle.

TLC slates annual
Trinity Lutheran Church of Dallas will host its annual community Thanksgiving celebration on Wednesday, Nov. 24.
The free dinner will be at the church at 450 SE Washington St. and will be served from 5:30 to 7 p.m. A Thanksgiving community worship service will take place at 7 p.m.
Child care will be provided, the facility is handicapped accessible, and home meal delivery is available.

Cornerstone Church of God will host a Thanksgiving luncheon Thursday, Nov. 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, 4395 Independence Highway.
A full turkey dinner with all the trimmings will be served. All are welcome.
Transportation is available to residents of the Monmouth-Independence area who would like to attend. Home-delivered meals are also available.

Independence Elks Lodge, with help from local businesses, is sponsoring a Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, Nov. 25.
Seatings are available from 3 to 5 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. The meal, which will include turkey and all the trimmings, will be served at Independence Elks Lodge, 289 S. Main St.

PCL tree lot opens
for sales Nov. 26
Partnerships in Community Living Inc. has scheduled its annual Christmas tree sale fundraiser beginning Friday, Nov. 26.
The tree lot is located at 480 E. Main St. in Monmouth. Trees will be available for sale daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Tuesday, Dec. 21.
All proceeds benefit PCL's Christmas fund that purchases gifts for adults with developmental disabilities.

Troop 38 selling
Boy Scout Troop 38 will sell Christmas trees beginning Friday, Nov. 27, from 1 to 7 p.m. in Monmouth.
The lot is located at 421 E. Main St. Hours are Monday through Friday from 4 to 7 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Noble, Nordmann and Douglas firs ranging from 2 to 10 feet tall will be available. All proceeds benefit Boy Scout Troop 38.
Troop 38 will also offer tree recycling after the holiday.

Benefit book sale
Monday at hospital
West Valley Hospital volunteers will hold a book gift fair fundraiser Monday, Nov. 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the hospital conference room.
The "Books Are Fun" book fair includes more than 250 titles of new books by worldwide publishers, as well as music, stationary, scrapbooking and educational gifts for all ages.
Proceeds go toward the hospital volunteers' long-running scholarship fund for 2011 Polk County graduating students hoping to pursuing a career in the medical field.

Spirit Mountain Casino is holding its third annual toy drive this holiday season to benefit patients at Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
Guests visiting Spirit Mountain will receive $10 in free slot play for every new and unwrapped toy or game brought to the Coyote Club desk Nov. 29 through Dec. 17. There is a maximum of $30 in bonus play per person.
All donations will go directly to Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland.

Monmouth Garden Club will conduct its annual holiday greens sale Tuesday, Nov. 30, through Thursday, Dec. 2, at Central Baptist Church, 655 S. Pacific Ave. (99W), Monmouth.
The sale takes place Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will include wreaths, swags, cup and table arrangements in various sizes.

Dallas postal employees welcome the community to their sixth annual Customer Appreciation Day, Wednesday, Dec. 1, at the Dallas Post Office, 768 SW Church St.
The event will be celebrated from 1 to 4 p.m. with cookies and punch, a children's coloring contest, door prizes and a raffle. Raffle tickets are 50 cents each and proceeds benefit the Dallas Holiday Project. Prizes include a life-sized likeness cutout of Roy Rogers and an inflatable Campbell's Soup can.

Perrydale FFA will host its annual Senior Citizen Holiday Party at 12:41 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2, in the old gym at Perrydale School, 7445 Perrydale Road.
