DALLAS -- Given the recent business closures due to the struggling economy, there's some good news on the Dallas retail front.
The Dallas Quiznos will be reopening Thursday, Sept. 30, under new management.
The location at 244 E. Ellendale Ave., formerly operated as a franchise, closed earlier this year
The soon-to-be opened store will be run under a different model.
"This one will be corporate-owned, corporate-run," said Michael Dieck, the Quiznos corporate general manager who is overseeing the opening.
Dieck said the location will employ 10 to 15 people and will feature a new look and updated menu.
The reopening is on an expedited schedule, with Dieck hiring workers, having the interior remodeled and equipment upgraded and installed in a little more than a week.
"It's Grand Central Station right now," Dieck said on Monday.
The restaurant will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Free Wi-Fi will be available to dine-in customers.
Dieck said he will continue working with the staff for the first several weeks of operation, and then the restaurant will be turned over to a permanent manager. He said he is not certain who the manager will be at this time.
The reopening of the Dallas location is part of Quiznos plan to open 600 new corporate-run locations nationwide. The move is a departure from the past, in which many stores were operated as franchises.
The chain also is renovating more than 3,000 of its stores, revising menu options and incorporating "green" packaging and practices to promote sustainable operation, according to a statement announcing the company's expansion plans.
Dieck said the Dallas store will open with the new interior design for the restaurants.
"It's going to look really cool in here," he said.
Five new sandwiches will be on the menu, including a new deli roll sandwich, and others with new recipes.
"We are trying new flavors," Dieck said. "We're trying to keep up with what customers want."
