POLK COUNTY -- A Grand Ronde man was killed in a three-vehicle crash Wednesday morning, April 13, on Highway 22 west of Dallas.
According to an Oregon State Police (OSP) press release, Sgt. Bob Charpentier reported that at about 9:20 a.m. a commercial truck hauling large paper rolls was heading east on Highway 22 near milepost 12 when, for an unknown reason, a westbound Ford pickup crossed the centerline. The truck struck the driver's side of the pickup.
A third vehicle, another westbound Ford pickup that had been following the first pickup, was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the semi-trailer.
The driver of the pickup that crossed the centerline, Gary N. Butler, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the commercial truck, Leslie D. Brannon, 60, of Veneta, sustained minor injuries and was taken to West Valley Hospital for treatment.
Aaron Morgan, 41, of Lebanon, the driver of the third vehicle, was not injured.
All three drivers were wearing safety restraints.
OSP troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation into the accident.
The crash closed the highway for more than three hours.
OSP troopers were assisted at the scene by Polk County Sheriff's Office, Dallas Fire Department and ODOT.
