SALEM -- The Polk County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in trying to identify a man whose body was recovered from the Willamette River in Salem on April 17.
On Sunday, April 17, at about 6:30 p.m., the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Salem Fire and Salem Police responded to a reported body floating down the Willamette River under the downtown Salem bridges.
Salem Fire located the body near the bank just below the Gilbert House and assisted the sheriff's office in the recovery of the unidentified male.
The body appeared to have been in the water for some time and did not have any identification on him.
The man appears to have been between 40 and 50 years of age, white, about 5 feet, 10 inches in height, and between 180 and 200 pounds. The man had no hair other than a brown "rat tail" on the back of his head, and was missing his right eye.
