POLK COUNTY -- A number of local not-for-profit groups and organizations are offering to recycle your Christmas tree for a nominal fee beginning this week.
Among those providing tree recycling in Polk County:
* Dallas Mat Club will conduct its third annual tree recycling project Saturday, Dec. 31, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at LaCreole Middle School, 701 SE LaCreole Drive, Dallas. Trees can also be picked up from local homes and businesses.
A donation of $10 is suggested. All proceeds benefit the middle school wrestling program.

* Boy Scout Troop 38 of Monmouth and Independence is offering a Christmas tree recycling service, with pickup dates available starting Saturday, Dec. 31. Additional pickup dates are Monday, Jan. 2, and Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 7 and Jan. 8.
Cost is by a donation to the troop. Proceeds help support Troop 38 with upcoming activities and projects.

* Heart to Heart Church will pick up or you will be able to drop off trees at 191 N. Monmouth Ave., Monmouth, Saturday, Dec. 31, and Saturday, Jan. 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost per tree is $4 if you drop the tree off at the church or $5 if your tree is picked up. * SABLE House will hold a tree recycling event at Allied Waste, 1030 W. Ellendale Ave., Dallas, on Saturday, Jan. 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is a suggested donation of $5 per tree.
