DALLAS -- You asked for it. Soon, you shall have it.
A Taco Bell franchise is slated to open a restaurant in the Jasper Crossing development off of West Ellendale Avenue in Dallas this year.
If everything goes as planned, tacos, burritos, nachos and chalupas could begin being served as soon as this summer.
Mitch Teal, the broker with Commercial Investment Associates representing the development, said surveys conducted before construction began on the retail project in 2007 showed that Dallas residents wanted to see a Taco Bell in the city's future.
Teal said he had been working with a franchisee for a couple of years to open a Taco Bell, but was never able to finalize a deal.
Then Weber Enterprises Inc., a Eugene-based franchisee operating more than 20 Taco Bell outlets in Oregon, approached him about opening a restaurant in Jasper Crossing.
"They were actually out looking for locations," he said. "Dallas was in competition with others."
Teal announced plans for a Taco Bell last week. He said it appears that Weber Enterprises, working with the city of Dallas and the property owner, may put the Dallas location on a fast track to open.
Taco Bell will be built at the corner of Northwest Jasper Street and West Ellendale Avenue. The restaurant will be 3,000 square feet with a drive-through window.
