MONMOUTH/INDEPENDENCE -- Central School Board of Directors ratified a new contract agreement for its 175 classified workers on July 11.
That employment group includes cooks, bus drivers, instructional assistants and secretaries.
The board and employees reopened a contract approved in 2009-10 under a special provision to discuss changes to salary and benefits for the 2011-13 biennium.
Classified workers will receive a 2 percent cost-of-living raise in 2012 and 1 percent hike the following year, said Rich McFarland, Central School District's human resources director.
District contributions for health insurance and benefits, meanwhile, will remain flat through 2013, with an option for health reimbursements.
Salaries for Central School District classified employees will collectively total about $3.3 million for 2011-12.
Negotiations, which began during the spring, went smoothly considering the state of the economy, McFarland said.
"We know their costs are going up and that they desire to keep up with them," he said. "Our desire is to maintain programs and keep things functioning."
