DALLAS -- Chinese restaurant Diamonds Garden is under new management and is holding a month-long grand opening, which started on Wednesday, July 20.
New owners Jim Zhen and Sammie Li took over the operation in April and unveiled a new menu last week.
Zhen has 18 years experience as a chef and trained in China. He worked at Salem's Marco Polo restaurant for more than three years before deciding to take over Diamonds Garden.
Nancy Allen is longtime a server who has worked at the location for 10 years and for several owners. She said Zhen and Li have instituted several changes at the restaurant since taking ownership, including reconfiguring the parking lot to make it easier to get in and out, offering more menu variety, and providing free ice cream with dinners on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
"We encourage people to come try our food and service," Allen said. "We treat our customers like family."
Diamonds Garden offers a gluten-free menu and will accommodate special dietary needs. A separate lunch menu, served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, features house specials from $4.75 and combinations ranging from $5.50 to $6.50. The dinner menu includes chicken, beef, pork, seafood and vegetable entrees, plus bento, noodle and rice dishes. Chef specials will change weekly depending on available ingredients.
Diamonds Garden will be offering a 10-percent discount during its grand opening through Aug. 20.
