MONMOUTH -- A Falls City woman was arrested on June 1 after making up a claim that she had been assaulted by two strangers, Monmouth police said.

Officers received a report of a physical and possible sexual assault near Monmouth-Independence Highway and Boyd Lane, known locally as the S-curves.

Melinda Rae Temby, 39, stated two male subjects assaulted her while she was walking alone at 3 a.m. that day, Sgt. Kim Dorn said.

After interviewing Temby's friends and family members, it was determined that the report was made up. Temby was subsequently arrested for initiating a false police report.
