DALLAS -- A Dallas man was shot in the leg during a fight on the afternoon of Monday, Feb. 28, near Dallas.
At about 3:40 p.m., Polk County Sheriff's deputies were called to 150 Hawthorne Ave., just outside the Dallas city limits, to a report of someone having been shot.
There, deputies found 19-year-old Jonathan S. Walker had been shot with a small-caliber gun rifle, according to a press release.
The wound to Walker's left calf was not life-threatening and a Dallas ambulance crew took him to Salem Hospital for treatment.
The suspect in the shooting, a 17-year-old male juvenile, was detained at the scene of the shooting without incident. Authorities are withholding the juvenile suspect's name until the Polk County District Attorney can review the charges against him, said Sgt. Kevin Haynes.
The suspect was taken to the Polk County Sheriff's Office for questioning and later transported to the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center, where he is being held on charges of attempted murder and first-degree assault.
Witnesses told investigators that Walker and the suspect had been in a physical fight just before the shooting occurred.
The motive for the fight and subsequent shooting is under investigation, according to the release. Haynes said multiple shots were fired during the incident.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact lead investigator Det. Curtis Pitt at 503-623-9251.
