DRV earns state

safety recognition

DALLAS -- Dallas Retirement Village's safety committee has been recognized with 2011 Safety Committee of the Year Award.

The award, which honors the committee's work to prevent work place illness and injury, will be presented to DRV today (Wednesday, March 9) at the biennial Oregon Governor's Occupational Safety and Health Conference in Portland.

Gail Winegar, DRV's director of human resources, said the safety committee consists of representatives from each department working directly with residents. Winegar said the committee tries to use creative ways, such as videos and songs with a safety message, to encourage workplace safety, including a tune called "Battle Hymn of the Injured."

"It's a parody that gets the point across in a fun way," Winegar said.

Those tactics and the collaborative nature of the committee has significantly reduced the amount and cost of workplace injuries, Winegar said.

DRV was nominated by its safety management consultant from SAIF.
