Lifeguard class

scheduled in Dallas

DALLAS -- A Red Cross lifeguard certification course will be offered during the month of November at the Dallas Aquatic Center, 1005 SE LaCreole Drive.

The class will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon from Nov. 7 through Nov. 26. Cost is $150, but the city of Dallas will reimburse $100 of that amount after six months of employment at the Dallas Aquatic Center.

You must be 15 years of age or older, be able to swim 300 yards of freestyle and breaststroke, and be able to complete a timed 10-pound brick retrieval exercise. Deadline to register is Thursday, Nov. 3.

CHS winter sports registration set

INDEPENDENCE -- Registration for the 2011-12 winter sports season at Central High School will be held Nov. 7-10 from 7:30 to 8 a.m. in the school's athletic office.

All athletes must have a current physical on file in the athletic office to participate in sports.

DBA youth hoops set to tip off soon

DALLAS -- Registration for competitive and recreational boys and girls K-8 basketball teams coordinated by the Dallas Basketball Association is under way.

Teams are being formed for the following grade levels: K-1 (developmental), 2-3 (developmental), 3 (optional), 4-6 (recreational), 5-6 (competitive), 7-8 (LaCreole Middle School A and B teams), and 7-8 (competitive).

Skill assessment dates begin as early as Monday, Nov. 7.

Kids wrestling club taking sign-ups

INDEPENDENCE -- Registration is still being accepted for the Panther Kids Wrestling Club.

Cost to join the Panther Kids Wrestling Club is $20. There is also a $40 USA Wrestling fee. Each wrestler must register online at and register under "Panther Kids."

Club practices begin Nov. 10 and take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the wrestling room at Central High School.
