INDEPENDENCE -- The city of Independence is hosting a free workshop on enhancing local tourism for business owners on Monday, Nov. 14.
Officials will present the city's recently completed tourism and marketing plan. Coming up with the strengths and weaknesses of the plan, and determining which recommendations to undertake, are goals of the meeting, said Shawn Irvine, Independence economic development director.
"As an outcome, we would like to have a finalized plan and list of actions that the group and our community will need to take to better promote Independence," Irvine said.
The city will invite workshop participants to help facilitate items the group selects as priorities. It will also allocate $5,000 to help pay for that effort, Irvine said.
The event runs from 3 to 7 p.m. inside the Independence Event Center, on the bottom floor of the Civic Center, 555 S. Main St.
The workshop is geared toward business owners, but is open to the public and will feature free food and door prizes.
Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP via the city of Independence Facebook page or by calling Irvine at 503-838-1212.
