Business start-up seminar Oct. 11

INDEPENDENCE -- People who are considering self-employment may gain insight on how to get their business up and running during a free information session hosted by MERIT (MicroEnterprise Resources, Initiatives & Training).

The information session will be held Tuesday, Oct. 11, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Heritage Room at the Independence Civic Center, 555 S. Main St.

MERIT is a not-for-profit organization that provides training, advising, access to capital, and access to market data to people starting new businesses. MERIT's services are low-cost.

The MERIT program is part of the Chemeketa Community College Small Business Development Center in Salem.

Nutrition store opens in Monmouth

MONMOUTH -- Valley Sports Nutrition recently opened its doors at 633 Clay St. E. in Monmouth.

Owned by Matt Noack and Alex Whitaker, Valley Sports Nutrition provides its customers with the most advanced sports nutrition products. The company also has professionals to establish exercise training and protocol, along with guidance for weight management, muscle tone and muscle gain, and increased athletic performance.

Whitaker is a former head strength and conditioning coach and Noack is a student at Western Oregon University.

Valley Sports Nutrition is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
