MONMOUTH -- Boy Scout Troop 38 from Monmouth held its fall Court of Honor on Oct. 4 to recognize recent achievements of several scouts. Troop members received more than 40 merit badges which they had earned.

Several of the boys received rank advancement as follows:

* To the Rank of Scout -- Nolan Boyer, Broderick Buckholz and Zachary Thompson.

* To the Rank of Tenderfoot -- Calvin Baker, John Danielson and Benjamin Reyna.

* To the Rank of Star -- Andrew Wagman.

Also during the event, a letter of thanks was read from the U.S. Forest Service for three of the boys -- Buckholz, Danielson and Wagman -- who, while with other adults on a hike to Marion Lake, found an abandoned camp fire and made sure that it was completely extinguished before they departed. This involved several trips over to the lake and digging along a couple of tree roots that the fire had burned into to get the fire out.
