MONMOUTH -- It was a successful weekend for both the Western Oregon University baseball and softball teams, as both squads won their respective home series over the weekend.
The WOU softball team pulled off a solid 3 games to 1 series win over Simon Fraser, defeating the Clan (24-10, 17-9 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) 4-3 in Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader and then 10-1 and 1-0 in Saturday's twin bill.
Pitcher Brittany Reeves (3-3) had an outstanding weekend, picking up two of the three wins while allowing just eight hits and one earned run.
Myranda Sawyer picked up the final win, a 1-0 victory in Sunday's second game, to record her first career shutout.
The Wolves (10-21, 6-12 GNAC) return to the field Wednesday for a contest at Northwest Nazarene.
WOU BASEBALL KEEPS ON ROLLING:
The Western Oregon baseball team continued its winning ways with a four-game sweep over Montana State Billings Saturday and Sunday in Monmouth.
The Wolves (24-7, 13-1 GNAC) defeated MSUB (11-15, 4-10) 10-4 and 5-1 in Saturday's doubleheader and then tacked on two more victories Sunday, winning 12-0 and 5-0.
Blake Miller picked up the GNAC's Player of the Week honor after collecting 11 hits in 19 at bats in the Wolves' last six contests.
His hits included four doubles and three home runs to go along with eight RBI.
Kirk Lind was also named the GNAC's Pitcher of the Week after picking up a win and a save in his two appearances.
