MONMOUTH -- A Salem man is facing five felony charges after begin accused of raping a 19-year-old Monmouth woman late last month.
Romeo Castellanos, 34, has been charged with two counts of first-degree sodomy, two counts of first-degree sex abuse and one count of rape in the first degree.
According to court documents, the crimes allegedly occurred on July 22 after Castellanos and the victim, who knew each other, went to a party out of town.
The woman told police Castellanos drove her home after the party and she offered to let him sleep on her couch.
She slept in her bedroom, but told police she awoke later to Castellanos assaulting her, according to court documents.
Police arrested Castellanos July 27 after an interview in which he denied the accusations, or even having been in the victim's bedroom.
Castellanos pleaded not guilty to the charges on Aug. 2 and remains in Polk County Jail on $500,000 bail. He was scheduled to appear for a pretrial conference Tuesday.
