8/29 Pedee News: Arlene Kovash

There is a change in the location for the celebration of life for former Pedee resident Allen Ragsdale.

The event will now be at Dancing Oaks Nursery, 17900 Priem Road, off Maple Grove Road, on Sept. 14 at 4:30 p.m.

Ragsdale died at the age of 91 in Emmett, Idaho, on July 26. He was born in Salem and grew up on the family farm before joining the Navy after high school. After living in other locations around Oregon, he returned with his wife, Barbara, and family to Pedee, where he worked on the Cates family farm until his retirement in 2007.

His obituary in the Aug. 8 Itemizer-Observer stated that he felt "fortunate to work for both Eldon Cates and his son, Kendall. He always considered the Cates' to be like family."

Contributions can be made to the Pedee Women's Club Soldiers Account, c/o 11895 Kings Valley Highway, Monmouth, OR 97361.

The 44th annual Burbank Family Reunion was at Dallas City Park on Aug. 11. It was attended by several Pedee residents and former residents, including Dorothy McBeth and sons Sam and Darrel; Darrel's wife, Shirley, and son, Bob; Terry Proctor; Kurt and Marcie McBeth; Wes and Carla Burbank and their granddaughter, Justina, and her girls, Isbel and Jada from Sandy; Ted, Alberta and Raymond Jones; Melvin and Marguerite Nice, currently living in McMinnville; and John Jones of Kings Valley.

James Mellein was delighted when 20 people showed up on Aug. 18 to spruce up Pedee Church's parsonage in preparation for renting it out. Church members made it sparkle. Mellein is managing the home, located beside the Ritner Creek Bridge.
