POLK COUNTY -- A number of local not-for-profit groups and organizations are offering to recycle your Christmas tree for a nominal fee beginning this week.
Among those providing tree recycling in Polk County:
* The athletic program at Talmadge Middle School will accept trees for recycling from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, in the parking lot of Roth's Fresh Market, 1401 Monmouth St., Independence, and Saturday, Jan. 5, at Central Baptist Church, 655 S. Pacific Ave., Monmouth. Cost is $5 per tree. Pickup service is available. Proceeds benefit Talmadge sports. * Heart to Heart Church will pick up or you will be able to drop off trees at 191 N. Monmouth Ave., Monmouth, Saturday, Dec. 29, and Saturday, Jan. 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Suggested donation is $4 per tree if you drop the tree off at the church or $5 if your tree is picked up. * Dallas Mat Club will conduct its fourth annual tree recycling project Sunday, Dec. 30, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at LaCreole Middle School, 701 SE LaCreole Drive, Dallas. Trees can also be picked up from local homes and businesses. A suggested donation of $10 per tree is recommended. All proceeds benefit youth and middle school wrestling programs in Dallas. * SABLE House will hold a tree recycling event at Dallas Disposal (Allied Waste), 1030 W. Ellendale Ave., Dallas, on Saturday, Jan. 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is a suggested donation of $5 per tree. Tree pickup service in Dallas is also available.
