After-school art programs on tap

DALLAS -- The Dallas Intercommunity Activity Network after-school art programs resume Monday.

"Art Start," for grades K-3, takes place Mondays at Oakdale Heights Elementary School beginning at 2:30 p.m. "Art Adventures," for grades 4-5, begins March 7 at Whitworth Elementary School at 3 p.m.

This three-week program, taught by local artisan Dena Brehm, will focus on age appropriate self-expression using a variety of artistic media. The program includes instruction, all materials and snacks. Cost is $30.

Santiam Christian sets open house

ADAIR VILLAGE -- Santiam Christian Schools will host its annual open house Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The open house is an opportunity for parents and students of all grades (preschool-12) to visit classrooms, meet teachers and preview the curriculum.

Students in grades 7-12 may also preregister for a daylong campus visit, "a day in the life of a Santiam Christian student," on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students will visit classrooms and meet teachers by shadowing a current Santiam Christian student. They will also attend chapel, eat lunch (which is provided) and meet administrators.

The school is located at 7220 NE Arnold Ave. in Adair Village.

ACADEMIC HONORS

Dallas resident makes dean's list

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Chauncey Baker of Dallas has earned dean's list status for the recently completed fall term at Washington and Lee University. Dean's list status at Washington and Lee represents a term grade-point average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.

WSHS grads earn Gonzaga honor

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Rachel Fischer and Ryan Tuttle, 2008 graduates of West Salem High School, have been named to Gonzaga University's president's list for the 2011 fall semester. Students must earn a 3.7 to 4.0 grade-point average to be listed.

Local woman is recognized at GU

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Margaret Fischer has earned placement on the Gonzaga University dean's list for fall semester 2011. Students must earn a 3.50 to 3.69 grade-point average to be listed. Fischer is a 2011 graduate of West Salem High School.
