Milligan seeking commission seat

MONMOUTH -- Steve Milligan of Monmouth has entered the May race for a seat on the Polk County Board of Commissioners.

MONMOUTH -- Steve Milligan of Monmouth has entered the May race for a seat on the Polk County Board of Commissioners.

Milligan, 58, filed as a candidate for Position 1 with the Polk County Clerk's Office on Dec. 28.

Milligan, who's self-employed, was a Monmouth City Councilor for seven years and currently sits on the Central School District budget committee.

"I've been thinking about running for several years," said Milligan, noting he was about to join the 2008 commission race when he was selected as a Libertarian Party nominee for the 5th Congressional District.

Milligan will be the third person seeking Position 1. The race also includes Jennifer Wheeler, appointed in April to finish out the term of the late Mike Propes, and Dan Clem of West Salem, who filed with the clerk's office in late December.
