RICKREALL -- Three people were injured, one critically, in a two-vehicle, head-on collision that occurred Sunday on Highway 99W about a half mile south of Rickreall.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Senior Trooper David Kammerman, at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix four-door driven by Katheryn E. Sands, 20, of Monmouth was northbound near milepost 59. The Pontiac lost control on the icy roadway, crossed into the southbound lane and crashed head-on with a 1991 Honda Accord driven by Kent K. Tolzmann, 20, of Monmouth.
Tolzmann and passenger Katrina Hill, 20, of Monmouth, were taken to Salem Hospital, where Hill was reported to be in critical condition. Tolzmann suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. Sands was taken to West Valley Hospital in Dallas with minor injuries.
All occupants were using seat belts.
OSP continues to investigate the accident, which closed the highway for about 90 minutes. OSP was assisted at the scene by Polk County Sheriff's Office.
