Friday in Monmouth

The Heron Pointe senior living community is hosting a "Spice Up January Mexican Fiesta" Friday from noon to 1 p.m.

A festive taco bar will be offered. Cost is $5 per person (no cash; checks only).

Puzzle competition

on tap in Falls City

Wagner Community Library in Falls City has rescheduled its previously postponed jigsaw puzzle competition to Saturday at 10 a.m. at the library, 111 N. Main St.

The event is being held in conjunction with National Puzzle Day on Sunday.

Teams of two people will compete in different age brackets for prizes and fun. The event is open to all people kindergarten age and older. Preregistration is required.

Auditions slated

at Pentacle Theatre

Pentacle Theatre will hold auditions Saturday at 1 p.m. for its spring production of "A Streetcar Named Desire."

Auditions, which take place in the theater lobby, 324 52nd Ave. NW, West Salem, will include readings from the script. Copies of the script are available at the Pentacle business office, 145 Liberty St. NE, Salem, for a $10 refundable deposit.

Chili feed, auction

slated for Saturday

The 4-H Achiever's Club is hosting a chili feed and silent auction fundraiser Saturday to benefit the 2012 Relay For Life of Polk County.

The event takes place in the main building of the Polk County Fairgrounds and Event Center, 520 S. Pacific Highway (99W) in Rickreall. It will include a cake walk, games and silent auction beginning at 5 p.m. Cost of dinner, which begins at 6 p.m. and includes a bowl of chili, corn bread, salad, dessert and beverage, is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10. Children under 2 eat for free.

Game tickets are four for $1; bring a nonperishable food item and receive two free game tickets.
