POLK COUNTY -- The Dallas Resource Center is collecting school supplies for it annual Apple Tree School Supply Drive.
Donations can be dropped off at the Dallas Resource Center, 326 Main St., through Aug. 15.
This is the 14th year for the Apple Tree School Supply Drive, which provides assistance to children in the Dallas, Falls City and Central school districts.
Among the needed school supplies are calculators (scientific), USB memory sticks, three-ring binders, spiral notebooks, college ruled notebook paper, colored pencils, large scissors, compasses, protractors and backpacks.
Last year 620 students were provided with supplies, but not all of the children received backpacks. This year the Salvation Army is purchasing 600 new backpacks for the students, but the resource center anticipates serving nearly 800 children.
The school supplies will be distributed in the Independence and Monmouth area on Aug. 21 at Henry Hill Park from 6:30 to 8 p.m, in Dallas at the Polk County Academy Building gym Aug. 22 from 1 to 3 p.m., and in Falls City Aug. 23 at the Falls City Community Center from 9 to 11 a.m.
