DHS senior picked for OSF workshop

DALLAS -- Paul Disney, a senior-to-be at Dallas High School, has been selected to participate in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's 2012 Summer Seminar.

Disney is one of 65 students chosen for the two-week session, which will take place July 30 to Aug. 11 in Ashland.

The event started in 1981 and is a rigorous program designed for theater students who have recently completed their junior year of high school. Students participate in workshops and forums on topics such as theater administration, stage management, sound and lighting, Renaissance dance, and stage voice and movement.

Participants will attend nine OSF productions and work on group projects during their stay, including appealing to a mock board for funding for arts programs in schools.

Sale of fireworks

to aid FC schools

FALLS CITY -- Falls City School District is conducting a Fourth of July TNT Fireworks sale to help support several school programs.

Fireworks sale hours are noon to 9 p.m. beginning Saturday and continuing through July 4 at Falls City High School, 111 N. Main St.

Proceeds from the sale of fireworks will benefit Falls City School District athletics, the FACES (Family Academic Clubs and Enrichment for Success) program and the Falls City Parent Group.

Six earn degrees from George Fox

NEWBERG -- Six Polk County residents earned degrees from George Fox University upon completion of the 2012 spring term.

They are: Sara Elizabeth Juergensen, Dallas, Master of Arts, teaching; Leonard Hackett, Monmouth, Master of Education, Initial Administrative License Program; Amanda Lee Herrmann, Monmouth, Master of Arts, teaching; Kaylan Carpenter, Rickreall, Master of Arts, marriage, couple and family counseling; Steven Alexander OpBroek, Monmouth, Bachelor of Arts, accounting, Bachelor of Arts, business administration: finance; and Kristin Knaupp, Rickreall, Bachelor of Science, social work.

Locals receive degrees from Linfield

McMINNVILLE -- Six local residents were among the 587 students who received degrees during Linfield College's spring commencement ceremony May 27.

Among the Polk County residents graduating from Linfield were: Jesse James Boustead, Dallas, Bachelor of Arts, business -- marketing concentration; Brittany Irene Brostrom, Dallas, Bachelor of Arts, elementary education; Casey H. Cameron, Dallas, Bachelor of Science, finance; Carson Nicholas Crepeaux, Dallas, Bachelor of Science, psychology; Ron Snively, Dallas, Bachelor of Arts, business -- management concentration; and Patrick Thoms Deptula, Monmouth, Bachelor of Science, finance.

Pacific fetes two locals for grades

FOREST GROVE -- Alexis Bell of Monmouth and Joseph Deardorff of Independence were among 278 undergraduate students to be listed on the Pacific University dean's list for the spring 2012 semester. To qualify for the dean's list at Pacific, a student must achieve a term grade-point average of 3.7 or higher and complete 12 or more graded credit hours.

Monmouth man completes degree

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa -- Brandon Crawford of Monmouth earned a Bachelor of Arts in biochemistry, molecular biology and philosophy from Cornell College on June 2. Crawford, one of 254 students to receive degrees during Cornell College's commencement ceremony, is a graduate of Central High School.

Dallas duo earn WPC dean's list nod

PORTLAND -- Dallas residents Brannon Whitus and Julie Whitus have qualified for inclusion on the 2012 spring term dean's list at Warner Pacific College in Portland. To qualify, students must be enrolled full time and achieve a 3.5 or higher grade-point average.
