POLK COUNTY -- A woman was killed and two other people injured in a head-on collision on Highway 22 west of Dallas on Saturday.
The incident occurred at about 12:30 p.m. near milepost 9, close to the Salt Creek Store, Oregon State Police said in a release.
Kenneth Kerr, 89, of Salem was westbound in a 2008 Honda Civic when he lost control of his car after a hail storm, OSP said.
The Civic crossed into the eastbound lane and crashed head-on with a 2008 Toyota Camry driven by Sharon Gilmore, 49, of Sheridan.
Kerr, his wife, Marguerite Kerr, 88, and Gilmore were transported to Salem Hospital. Marguerite Kerr died after arrival.
Kenneth Kerr and Gilmore suffered nonlife-threatening injuries.
Troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing an investigation into the accident, though OSP indicated the slick surface of the road may have contributed.
All three victims were using safety restraints and airbags deployed in both vehicles.
OSP troopers were assisted at the scene by Keizer Police Department, Polk County Sheriff's Office, Dallas Fire Department and ODOT.
