PORTLAND -- After 25 years without one, Dallas High has yet another state championship team.

Just three weeks after the Dragons' wrestling team captured the school's first state title in any sport since 1987, the Dallas dance team won the program's first Dance and Drill state championship in the Class 5A Small Division Saturday at Portland's Memorial Coliseum.

"They were all overwhelmed that the hard work finally paid off," ninth-year coach Rayanne Genera said. "It's been a long time coming, that's for sure."

The Dragons, the No. 1 seed in their division heading into the traditional season final competition, scored an 81.28 with their two performances, edging out second-place Lebanon, which finished with 79.89 points. Hermiston was third with 75.

Dallas performed a hip-hop, military-themed routine, which differs from many of the styles that other schools choose to perform, especially at the state level.

It didn't matter for the 19-member Dragons, which include Jessica Jones, Margi Anderson, Haley Dickerson, Maddie Winters, RaeAnna Shaffer, Jordan Stan, Lauren Isham, Laurel Sleeper, Mariah McKechnie, Phylesha Cole, Kourtney Cooley, Mckenzie Fisher, Melissa Garcia, Alyssa Baxter, Aliyah Formen, Jenna Friesen, Megan Floyd, Hannah Davison and Paige Flora.

Stan, a senior, was named to the all-state team.
