MONMOUTH/INDEPENDENCE -- Polk County Fire District No. 1 and Polk No. 1 Firefighters Association honored its top employees and volunteer members at BeckenRidge Vineyard in Dallas on March 3.
Resident firefighter Robert Graham was named firefighter of the year. Graham joined the agency in 2010 and is a student at Chemeketa Community College.
Capt. Chad Paoli was named emergency medical technician (EMT) of the year. Paoli has volunteered with Polk No. 1 since 2000, just recently graduated from paramedic school and has been a past firefighter of the year.
Division/EMS Chief Mike Mayfield was given officer of the year honors. Mayfield was hired by Polk No. 1 in 2007, but has been involved with emergency services for almost 30 years.
Stan Peterson, a past volunteer firefighter and a chaplain, was presented with a longevity award for 25 years of service. Peter Desmarteau was named Rookie of the Year.
