Hospital Receives $50,000 Donation

DALLAS -- West Valley Hospital's remodel and expansion of its surgical rooms remains on schedule and on budget -- the latter thanks in part to a $50,000 donation to the West Valley Hospital Foundation

DALLAS -- West Valley Hospital's remodel and expansion of its surgical rooms remains on schedule and on budget -- the latter thanks in part to a $50,000 donation to the West Valley Hospital Foundation.

The anonymous donation was given specifically to help pay for costs associated with the $6.2 million upgrade, which began in November.

"We're actually just about half way done," said Melissa Davies, the business development project manager for West Valley Hospital. "We are anticipating opening one operating room and the patient care space in September or October."

Improvements to the exterior of the hospital are nearly finished, as well.

The remainder of the four-phase, 1,400-square-foot expansion is scheduled to be complete in February 2013.

The project includes electrical improvements, a remodel in the rehabilitation services department, an expansion of two surgical suites, construction of a separate surgical waiting area, and remodeling of the hospital's pharmacy.

Funding for the project is through West Valley's reserves and a loan from the hospital's parent organization, Salem Health.

The expansion will enable West Valley to incorporate the latest technology in operating rooms and give the hospital the ability to offer more procedures to patients.

The $50,000 donation will help in purchasing a portion of that technology.

"Those funds will be used to buy patient monitoring devices for the surgical rooms," Davies said. "That equipment did come in at a higher cost than estimated, so that donation did fill a gap that made it possible to get it."

Davies said with the project now half finished, the extra space is starting to take shape.

"It is very exciting," she said. "They are literally bringing in the dry wall for the walls this week. It gets exciting when you get to see how it is going to look."
