Central High spring sports teams earn state all-academic awards

INDEPENDENCE -- Several Central High School spring high school sports teams have not only been making their marks on the diamonds, tracks, courts and courses. They've been excelling in the classroom as well.

The Oregon School Activities Association and Dairy Farmers of Oregon recently announced its Spring 2012 Academic All-State top-10 teams. The Panthers were well represented on the list.

Leading the way was the Central softball squad, which ranked tied for second among all Class 4A schools with a team grade-point average of 3.78.

Central's girls tennis team posted a 3.75 GPA, which was tied for seventh among all 4A-3A-2A-1A schools, and the Panthers girls track and field team had a 3.65 GPA, which was seventh best at the 4A level.

Central's baseball team was ranked tied for second among 4A schools with a 3.56 GPA, the Panthers boys golf team was ranked tied for third with a 3.59 GPA.
