ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Samantha Ward had 13 kills to lead the Western Oregon University volleyball team to a 25-23, 25-19, 25-21 sweep over Alaska Anchorage Saturday and the Wolves' third-straight win.
Ward tallied 21 kills and hit .487 for the match in WOU's four-set, 20-25, 26-24, 29-27, 25-20 victory over Alaska Fairbanks Thursday.
The Wolves (14-5, 7-3 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) are on a hot streak entering Thursday's showdown with league-leader and No. 12-ranked Western Washington (17-2, 10-1 GNAC).
Last time the two teams squared off, WWU won in three sets.
Saturday, the Wolves host Simon Fraser with six GNAC regular-season matches remaining on the schedule. The Wolves currently sit in fourth place in the team standings, behind WWU, Central Washington (9-2) and Alaska Anchorage (8-3).
WOMEN'S SOCCER DROPS TWO:
The Western Oregon women's soccer team dropped two games last week, falling to Seattle Pacific 2-0 Saturday and Central Washington 2-1 Thursday. Kymberly Witmer scored the Wolves' (7-8-1, 5-6-1) lone goal of the week in the third minute of Thursday's game. Lindsay Bauman was credited with the assist. WOU hosts Montana State Billings Thursday and Northwest Nazarene Saturday to close out the regular season.
