MONMOUTH -- A man was cited on Saturday evening after crashing a Ford Expedition into the exterior of J's 99 Grill, 220 Pacific Highway N., according to Monmouth Police.

The incident happened at about 8 p.m., said Sgt. Kim Dorn. The 21-year-old driver from Monmouth, who Dorn would not name because there was no arrest, was initially parked in the adjacent lot of the Courtesy Inn north of the restaurant.

The driver told officers he was operating the SUV, accidentally hit the gas instead of the brakes, and crashed into the northwest corner of the restaurant, Dorn said. A photograph by a witness shows damage to the building's siding and a window.

Nobody was injured in the incident, Dorn said.

The driver was cited for careless driving, driving without a license and driving without insurance.
