HONOLULU, Hawaii -- Behind the offense of Krissi Kemper and Danielle Reese, the Western Oregon University volleyball team won two of three matches on its trip to Hawaii last week.
Reese tallied 14 kills and Kemper added 11 in a 25-23, 25-17, 22-25, 26-24 victory over Hawaii Pacific Thursday. LesLyne Satele added 20 assists and Megan Triggs had 25 digs in the victory.
The Wolves (5-2) picked up another nonconference win Friday, this time defeating Chaminade University in straight sets, 25-20, 25-22, 25-16. Kemper and Reese each had 11 kills and Satele added 22 assists.
Saturday, BYU Hawaii ended WOU's bid for a Hawaiian sweep by handing the Wolves a 25-19, 25-11, 25-23 loss. West Salem High graduate Sam Ward tallied 17 kills in the setback.
Western Oregon returns to Monmouth this week for a 7 p.m. home matchup with Willamette Wednesday and a 4 p.m. contest with Walla Walla Friday.
WOMEN'S SOCCER SPLITS IN HAWAII:
Lindsay Bauman and JoEllen DeLeon both connected on goals to lead the WOU women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Chaminade Sept. 4 in Hawaii. The Wolves outshot Chaminade 17-3 and Kelsey Lindsey and Hillary Lutz split time in goal to preserve the shutout. BYU Hawaii's Kim Micheletti found the back of the net in the 53rd minute Thursday to hand WOU a 1-0 loss. WOU (2-2) returns home Thursday to host Western Washington in its Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener at 3:30 p.m., followed by Saturday's 11 a.m. home contest against Simon Fraser.
