Hospital volunteers set book sale event West Valley Hospital Volunteer Services will host a "Books Are Fun" fundraiser Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.The sale will take place in the conference room immediately inside the main entrance to the hospital, 525 SE Washington St., Dallas.This sale will offer a variety of items including children's storybooks, cookbooks, general interest books, New York Times Best Sellers, stationery and scrapbooking, music collections, early learning products, children's education products and more.All proceeds go toward the Volunteer Services Scholarship Fund.For more information: 503-623-7323. Community yard sale is Saturday The Monmouth Business Association is hosting its third annual Community Yard Sale Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Main Street Park in Monmouth.The city of Monmouth is waiving all yard sale fees for anyone wishing to participate.MBA started the yard sale as a way to provide Western Oregon University students with a means to furnish their homes and apartments for the year without having to purchase new items.All proceeds go to the vendors; MBA does not make any profit from the event.For more information: Mark Fancey, 503-751-0147. Gardening seminar deadline extended The registration deadline has been extended until Tuesday for the Polk County Master Gardener Fall Fling and Vendor Faire, scheduled Sept. 7 at Dallas High School.Preregistration is required. No day-of-event registration will be available.This community educational event featuring expert speakers will start at 8:15 a.m. The $30 fee for all speaker presentations includes a catered lunch and snacks. Limited seating is available for afternoon workshops and presentations.
