Dorothy McBeth got quite a surprise Aug. 21 when she went to the Pedee Women's Club.As she was quilting, in walked her daughter Willa's daughter, Paula Allen, and her husband, Michael, as well as sons Andrew and James. The family had driven down from its home in Canada to see her.They all then went to Dorothy's, along with Dorothy's son, Darrel McBeth, to have lunch and a good visit. That night the whole family had dinner at Darrel and Shirley's. Dorothy's daughter, Sandy, and husband, Jerry Quiring, from Dallas and son, Sam McBeth, and Terry Proctor were there.Andrew is an accomplished bagpipe player and played for them.--Pete and LaVerne Bennett recently attended the dedication of their youngest granddaughter, Avery Bennett, at the South Salem Nazarene Church. She is the daughter of Jim and Julie Bennett of Salem. Also attending were Avery's older brothers, Reese and Isaac, and sister, Hannah, along with grandparents Larry and Gail Bennett from Elgin. The only one missing was older sister Amanda Bennett, who is in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Fairchild Air Base in Spokane, Wash.--Dancing Oaks Nursery is gearing up for its Full Moon Garden Walk at the nursery, which will be the night of Sept. 18. The event includes finger food and wine, plus music by harp guitarist John Doan. Tickets for this beautiful event are $30 and if you purchase them before Sept. 10 you'll receive 20 percent off all plants between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. at the garden walk, plus be entered into a drawing for two $40 gift certificates.
