DALLAS -- Polk County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Tyrone Jenkins will be among those honored at the Sept. 11 Red Cross "Real Heroes" breakfast.Jenkins will be recognized along with five other individuals and organizations at the Willamette Chapter of the Red Cross' ninth "Real Heroes" event in Salem.In August 2012, Dallas resident Dave Manley was jogging in downtown Dallas when he suffered a heart attack. Seeing Manley in distress, Jenkins pulled over his cruiser, jumped out and began performing CPR. He continued until paramedics arrived to take Manley to the hospital.Also honored at the breakfast will be members of the Chemeketa Community College men's basketball team and Salem Indoor Soccer team, both of which saved teammates by performing CPR; Chris Rampley, an off-duty Newport firefighter who rescued a crab fisherman; Steve Sanchez, a longtime Red Cross volunteer; and Woodburn-based nonprofit Love Santa Inc."This event helps us to celebrate individuals in Marion, Polk and Lincoln counties whose unselfish, caring acts helped to save the lives of friends, teammates and even complete strangers," said Maria Salazar, executive director of the Willamette Chapter of the American Red Cross. "Their stories will provide for an informative and inspiring breakfast."Jenkins was previously recognized by the Polk County Board of Commissioners.The breakfast will be held at the Salem Convention Center, 200 SE Commercial St. Doors open at 7:45 a.m. and the program begins at 8:30 a.m.Admission to the breakfast is free, but reservations are required.
