MONMOUTH -- Senior Lorrie Clifford scored 24 points and Mariah Durian added 13 as the Western Oregon University women's basketball team topped Central Washington 78-72 Thursday.

Clifford shot a crisp 8 of 13 from the field and dished out five assists in the victory, which saw WOU (8-15, 3-10 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) take a commanding 41-26 lead at halftime.

Melissa Fowler added 12 points and seven rebounds and Amber Reade had 10 points to round out the Wolves' top scorers.

Saturday, WOU sustained a 73-62 setback to Northwest Nazarene. Chantel Divilbiss scored 14 points and Fowler added 13 points to lead the Wolves.

MEN'S HOOPS DROPS PAIR OF GNAC CONTESTS:

The Western Oregon men's basketball team suffered a pair of GNAC setbacks last week, falling to Alaska Fairbanks 80-77 Thursday and Alaska Anchorage 79-73 Saturday. Thursday, Rodney Webster scored 17 points to lead the Wolves as the lone player to reach double figures. Saturday, Kolton Nelson pumped in 21 points and Andy Avgi added 18 points to lead WOU in the setback.

BASEBALL DROPS SERIES TO SONOMA:

The Western Oregon University baseball team dropped a four-game series at Sonoma State last weekend, falling three games to one. WOU (3-4) picked up its lone win in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday, defeating SSU 5-3. Zach Nuno picked up the win on the mound and Josh Wong tallied a triple to lead WOU at the plate.

SOFTBALL WINS ON AT DESERT STINGER:

The Western Oregon University softball team picked up two victories at last weekend's Desert Stinger Invitational in Las Vegas, defeating UC Colorado Springs 4-2 Saturday and Chadron State 4-3 Sunday. Stephanie Morgan picked up the win over UC Colorado and and Jourdan Williams won in the circle Sunday as the Wolves improved to 3-6.
