Fundraiser for TMS trip set Friday

MONMOUTH -- Community members can help cover the costs of a forthcoming European field trip for Talmadge Middle School students by dining on frozen yogurt at Frozation Nation, 641 Clay St. E., on Friday.

Twenty percent of all yogurt purchases from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday will go toward expenses for a Holocaust history tour the students will embark on this summer.

If you can't make it to Frozation, but still want to contribute to the trip, contact Marcella Stepp at 503-606-2411.

MVCA students excel at spelling bee

MONMOUTH -- Three students from Mid-Valley Christian Academy in Monmouth earned ribbons during the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) annual District Level Spelling Bee held Jan. 18 in Turner.

The top two spellers in first, second, fifth and sixth grades competed against students from other Christian schools in the area.

The three MVCA students who earned ribbons for their grade level were: Faith Fitts, first grade, second place; John Fitts, second grade, second place; and Wyatt Schrock, sixth grade, second place for his grade level and fifth place overall among fifth- through eighth-grade students from all participating schools.

Eight students from MVCA participated in the spelling bee. It was the first time the school has participated in this academic contest.
