The Pedee Women's Club is gearing up to make pies again for the Dancing Oaks Summer Festival, which is Saturday, two weeks earlier this year so it doesn't conflict with Dallas' Summerfest festival. The nursery will have some exciting new vendors attending and three of their nursery friends, Sebright Gardens (hosta and shade companions), Hydrangeas Plus (Hydrangeas, how'd you guess?) and Fry Road Nursery (wonderful tropicals and perennials) selling their gorgeous plants.Don't miss the pies or the new vendors. The Summer Festival is a benefit for Luckiamute Valley Charter Schools. Dancing Oaks is located at 17900 Priem Road, off Maple Grove Road between Kings Valley Highway and Airlie Road.--Nine Polk County Saddle-ites rode in the Monmouth-Independence Fourth of July Grand Parade this year, including three from Pedee: Jerry Mentzer, Charm Waller and Judy Guida, plus Larry and Mary Shellenbarger. Charm's daughter, Molly, cheered them on, as well as others from Pedee.Afterward, Sam and Judy Guida went to Portland for a barbecue with their niece, Jackie Trussell, and some of her friends and then walked to the waterfront to watch the fireworks. Jackie's apartment building has a rooftop garden with grills, patio furniture and great views, so it was a nice place to hang out.--Dave and Suzanne Burbank, son Derek, and his girlfriend Ashley Gruza of Turner celebrated the Fourth of July by helping Suzanne's father, Paul Kovash, get 300 bales of hay in the barn. Afterward, all went to the Burbanks for a barbecue with Salem friends Paul and Julie Mather and their daughters, Andrea and Stephanie, and Stephanie's husband, Blake Harvey, all of Albany. On July 3, Paul picked up his last load of hay from Sisters, where he has gone for 21 years to buy hay and bring it back to the valley to sell. He will be sticking with local hay at this point.
