Charities benefit from mini-marathon

MONMOUTH/INDEPENDENCE -- The 2013 Monmouth-Independence Fourth of July Mini-Marathon is in the books and the event was a success on more than just the running front.The annual 2.6-mile fun run and walk raised more than $5,350 dollars for local charities.Proceeds from this year's run were distributed to the Monmouth-Independence Lions Club, the Ella Curran Food Bank, Central High School's track and field and cross-country programs, and the Kelsey Oldham Scholarship Fund.The 41st annual Monmouth-Independence Mini-Marathon, sponsored by Monmouth Fitness Club and Brook & Terry's Espresso, featured approximately 400 runners and walkers this year.
