SCHOOL NOTES CCC Dallas preparing for fall term DALLAS -- Registration for fall term at Chemeketa Community College has begun for current students, and new students can register beginning Aug. 1.Polk County residents can take courses close to home at Chemeketa Dallas Center and several other local locations, including Central High School in Monmouth for the first time this fall.Chemeketa offers lower-division college credit courses, business technology, college preparation and GED studies. Students picked for OSF workshop ASHLAND -- Four seniors-to-be at area high schools have been selected to participate in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's 2013 Summer Seminar.Logan Davids, Ariana Davis and Hannah Fawcett of Dallas High School and Leif Olsen of Central High School are among the 65 students chosen for the two-week session, which will take place beginning Monday and continuing through Aug. 10 in Ashland.The event started in 1981 and is a rigorous program designed for theater students who have recently completed their junior year of high school. Students participate in workshops and forums on topics such as theater administration, stage management, costume construction, sound and lighting, Renaissance dance, stage voice and movement, and marketing and publicity.Participants will attend 10 OSF productions and work on group projects during their stay, including appealing to a mock board for funding for arts programs in schools. ACADEMIC HONORS UW-Oshkosh honors Duesterhoeft OSHKOSH, Wis. -- Amy Duesterhoeft of Monmouth has qualified for the dean's list at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for the 2013 spring semester. To qualify for the dean's list, students must take a minimum of 12 credits and achieve a grade-point average of 3.75 or higher. CHS grad earns Wooster distinction WOOSTER, Ohio -- Bjorn Olsen of Monmouth has been named to the spring semester dean's list at The College of Wooster in Ohio. Olsen, a 2011 graduate of Central High School, is a sophomore studio art major. Students must achieve a grade-point average of 3.65 or above to receive the distinction. Locals qualify for dean's list at UO EUGENE -- Three local residents were among the 1,352 students named to the University of Oregon's dean's list for spring term 2013.Local honorees, by name, class, major and hometown, include:Rebecca Jean Cudmore, sr., anthropology, Dallas; Charles John Drake, jr., undeclared major, Dallas; and Margarita Carrillo, fr., undeclared major, Independence.To qualify, a student must be an undergraduate, complete 15 credit hours for the term and have 12 credits graded with a GPA of 3.75 or better.
