Western Oregon University's Class of 2013

The commencement ceremony for Western Oregon University's Class of 2013 will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. at McArthur Field in Monmouth.The commencement speaker will be Dr. Claire Oliveros, a 1995 WOU alumna and current director of TRiO Student Support Services at Portland Community College's Cascade campus.Some 1,370 students are expected to participate in commencement, the largest class in WOU's history.This is the first year graduates of the Oregon Health & Science University nursing program at WOU will participate in the ceremony.Amanda Litzinger is the recipient of the Julia McCulloch Smith Award (outstanding senior female), while Trevor Roush is the recipient of the Delmer Dewey Award (outstanding senior male). A few graduation statistics: * 82 percent are receiving bachelor's degrees.* 18 percent are receiving master's degrees.* 36 percent of graduates are men, 64 percent are women.* The youngest bachelor's candidate is 20 years old, the oldest is 70 years old; average age for bachelor's recipients is 25.* The youngest master's student is 23 years old, the oldest is 63 years old; average age for master's recipients is 33.* There are six husband-and-wife graduating teams.* 22 percent of graduates are married.* 55 graduates are second-generation WOU graduates.* One graduate is a third-generation WOU graduate.* 28 of 36 Oregon counties are represented.* Nine states besides Oregon are represented: Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New York, Washington and Wyoming.* Seven countries besides the U.S. are represented: China, Saudi Arabia, Northern Mariana Islands, Guatemala, Mexico, Estonia and Libya.* Three students have a 4.00 WOU GPA.* 13 students have completed two bachelor's degrees at the same time.* Four sets of twins are graduating. Interesting demographics about OHSU's class of 2013: * 31 students are receiving Bachelor of Science degrees with an emphasis in nursing.* 13 percent are men, 87 percent are women.* The youngest graduate 21 is years old, the oldest is 52 years old.* The average age for graduates is 30.* 55 percent are married.* Nine Oregon counties are represented.* Four states are represented: Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington.* Three countries are represented: Germany, Laos and USA.* 13 have a 4.00 OHSU GPA.--Source: Western Oregon University
