NCAA West Region Player of the Year has walked twice and struck out three times in six at-bats, with appearances at both first and third base. A.J. Burke Burke, the 941st pick by the Oakland Athletics, has played in two games for the AZL Athletics, a team based in Phoenix, Ariz.In three innings, he's allowed two hits and struck out five batters.* Former WOU standout Grady Wood , who was drafted in the 10th round by the Seattle Mariners in 2012, is excelling in his role as a right-handed reliever for the Clinton LumberKings, a Class A affiliate of the Mariners based in Clinton, Iowa. In 39 innings pitched, Wood is 4-2 with a 2.50 ERA, 32 strikeouts and seven saves. Opposing batters are hitting just .199 against the second-year minor leaguer, who pitched for short-season Class A Everett (Wash.) in 2012. Grady Wood UPDATE: Grady Wood was transferred to Seattle Class A affiliate High Desert Mavericks, in Adelanto, Calif., shortly after the Itemizer-Observer went to press Tuesday. The Mavericks compete in the California League, where they stand in second place in the South Division. * Jason Wilson , also a former WOU pitcher drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2012, is currently a member of the Florence (Ky.) Freedom of the Frontier League, an independent pro baseball organization not affiliated with MLB. In 36.2 innings pitched, Wilson is 1-3 with 21 strikeouts and a 3.92 ERA. Jake Pettit * Jake Pettit , who pitched for the Wolves from 2009-10, is currently competing in Double A baseball with the Eastern League's Bowie Baysox, an affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles located in Bowie, Md. Pettit was selected by Baltimore in the 42nd round of the 2010 MLB draft and has played for six teams -- including a 12-inning stint with the Triple A Norfolk Tides this season -- in his minor league career. In 12 games with the Baysox, the 26-year-old has a 3-3 record in 69 innings pitched, 50 strikeouts and a 5.09 ERA.
