MONMOUTH/INDEPENDENCE -- Monmouth and Independence will be spruced up during the two communities' annual Cleanup and Beautification Day, set for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Monmouth and Independence residents are encouraged to show support by beautifying their own property and volunteering for the greater communitywide cleanup. The community cleanup will include such projects as park restoration, riverbank cleanup, and downtown and roadway beautification.
Location for the cleanup dropoff is Independence Riverview Park. Residents are welcome to bring to the park their refuse, which may include trash, wood, metals and tires. No paint, chemicals, cement or household garbage will be accepted.
Cost is $10 for Monmouth and Independence residents, and $12 for surrounding county residents. The cleanup is being held in conjunction with the annual SOLV Project Oregon.
Elderly and disabled citizens requiring assistance with transportation of debris can contact the Independence or Monmouth police departments no later than Friday to schedule pick-up assistance. Lunch will be provided for all assisting with cleanup projects.
Individuals or groups who have projects or are wishing to volunteer for the Monmouth and Independence cleanup can contact Independence Officer Lyle Gilbert at 503-837-1114.
