Dragons earn win over Sunset during the Nike Lake Oswego Interstate Shootout

LAKE OSWEGO — The Dallas girls basketball team arrived at the Nike Lake Oswego Interstate Shootout looking to make a statement. The Dragons opened the tournament by falling to Centennial 48-34 on Saturday before losing to West Salem 63-38 on Sunday. Dallas rebounded by defeating Sunset 53-47 on Monday.

“We started with a really good 6A team in Centennial and kept the game close,” Dallas coach David Brautigam said. “We did not play well against West Salem, but came back on Monday after a bad loss and played well together as a team against Sunset.”

Taylor Fennell led the Dragons with nine points against Centennial. Sarah Zwicker added eight points as Dallas trailed by six entering the final period.

Zwicker scored a team-high 12 points against West Salem. Stats for Monday’s game were not available. The Dragons concluded play at the tournament Tuesday after press time.

“The environment and level of competition is a great experience for our team,” Brautigam said. “We will be much better because of it.”

Dallas hosts Beaverton Tuesday at 7 p.m.

PERRYDALE SUFFERS BIG LOSS: Senior guard Cheyenne Locke scored a team-high 16 points, but Perrydale’s girls basketball squad fell to Damascus Christian 69-35 on Monday. The Pirates hit seven 3-pointers during the loss but the Pirates (4-3 overall, 0-1 Tri-River Conference) struggled overall. “We just didn’t shoot the ball well,” Perrydale coach Terry Newton said. “We’ve got to shoot better going forward.” The Pirates play at Monroe on Saturday and at Central Linn on Tuesday.

FALLS CITY OPENS 1A HOOPS CLASSIC: The Falls City girls basketball team opened play at the 1A Hoops Classic with a 42-35 loss to Southwest Christian on Monday. Brittany Varney led the Mountaineers with 12 points, while Allison Kidd added eight points. Falls City played McKenzie at the Hoops Classic Tuesday after press time. The Hoops Classic runs through Wednesday (today). The Mountaineers will also compete at the Alsea Tin Hat Tournament on Friday and Saturday before playing at Siletz Valley on Monday.
