Final CSD kindergarten sign-up set    INDEPENDENCE — The final kindergarten registration session for the 2014-15 school year in the Central School District takes place Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Independence Elementary School, 150 S. Fourth St.    Children must be 5 years of age on or before Sept. 1, 2014. Parents need to bring their child's birth certificate and immunization records to the registration.    For more information: Independence Elementary School, 503-838-1322. If unsure about which school your child should attend: Central School District transportation department, 503-838-1621.    Dallas FFA plant sale this weekend    DALLAS — Dallas FFA Club’s annual “Mother’s Day Plant Sale” is Friday and Saturday at Dallas High School, 1250 SE Holman Ave.    The sale will be held on both days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., just in time to find that perfect gift for mom.    Plants will be sold from the greenhouse behind the high school. Proceeds will benefit Dallas FFA Club’s members and programs.    Hanging baskets will be $20, 4-inch round pots are $4 and plant four-packs are $3.    For more information: 503-623-8336.    Medical scholarships announced    DALLAS — The West Valley Hospital Foundation has awarded scholarships to 22 students in medically related fields for the 2014-2015 school year.    A total of $24,000 in scholarships was awarded to Polk County residents pursuing degrees in a variety of programs.    Scholarship recipients for the 2014-2015 school year include:    • From Dallas: Hilary Broadus, Jennifer Broadus, Leslie Classen, Hailey Clothier, Missy Huber, Serena Lairson, Maria McCarthy, Kristi Tichenor and Miki Todosov.    • From Falls City: Destiny Wyatt.    • From Independence: Kirsten Fertig.    • From Monmouth: Jordan Frerichs, Michael Frerichs and JingJing Rao.    This is the seventh year that the West Valley Hospital Foundation has awarded scholarships. This year's scholarship awards were funded by the proceeds from the foundation's 2013 Moonlight & Vines Gala.    Polk trio earn credit union awards    CORVALLIS — Three students from Polk County were among 15 high school seniors to receive $1,000 Tomorrow’s Leaders Today college scholarships from OSU Federal Credit Union.    Recipients included Trevor Whitaker and Raina Smith of Central High School and Cody Bibler of Dallas High School. Whitaker plans to attend Oregon State University, Smith Western Oregon University and Bibler Chemeketa Community College.    The awards were presented April 2 during OSU Federal’s annual meeting at the Majestic Theater in Corvallis.    Central grad receives MBC honor    STAUNTON, Va. — Wendy Deptula of Monmouth recently received the Scholar Athlete Award at Mary Baldwin College's spring honors convocation, a ceremony to recognize student academic achievement. The award is given to a member of a Mary Baldwin College sports team who achieves high academic standing. Deptula is a 2012 graduate of Central High School.
